The George Washington Police Department (GWPD) provides residential hall security and patrol services to the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses and oversees security at the VSTC campus. The Department also coordinates safety & security for a variety of on-campus special events, including Commencement, Alumni & Families Weekend and visits by dignitaries. In addition to those roles and responsibilities, GWPD provides crime prevention education to the GW community.
Updated Implementation Planning Framework
In April, the university announced that the Board of Trustees directed the university administration to develop an implementation plan for arming GWPD supervisory officers. After incorporating input from GW community members, in late August the university completed the first of a multi-phase implementation process by arming two executive supervisory officers. The university also provided the key features of a five-part implementation plan. Community members are encouraged to review and give additional feedback, and we will provide regular updates to our planning and ways the community can remain involved.
