The George Washington University Police Department Honor Guard was created in 2005. It is coordinated by Sergeant Francis Williams and Corporal Norman Harmon.
Honor Guard members received their formal training at the Easton Police Department in Easton Maryland. They learned basic funeral detail service, basic drill, ceremony, and flag etiquette.
The Honor Guard was created to present the colors at high profile events and to show respect at funerals for current and retired department members. Since its inception, the Honor Guard has participated in many campus and police functions. These include The George Washington University commencement ceremonies, First Lady Michelle Obama’s keynote speech, the opening ceremony for the National Science Olympiad, and the police academy graduation ceremonies for the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area.
