The Graduate Education Center, Arlington (GECA) is a George Washington University off-campus graduate education center, serving working professionals and offering seven masters programs and three graduate certificates. The GECA normally has around 1,000 registrations each semester. The facility has the capability of seating approximately 400 people on two floors.

The Graduate Education Center, Arlington is located in the heart of Ballston at the intersection of N. Glebe Road and Fairfax Drive, three blocks from the Ballston Metro Station (Orange/Silver Lines). Housed in the Regent Building, GECA occupies the entire sixth floor of the building, approximately 20,000 square feet, and has just under 5,000 square feet on the first floor, which is accessed from N. Glebe Road. The GECA includes 12 classrooms, four labs, two Landscape studios, four conference rooms, two homework labs, fifteen offices, two reception areas, an adjunct faculty office, student lounge and a staff workroom. The sixth floor facility can be accessed from six elevators and two walk up stairways. The sixth floor can be secured by locking two electronically-locked corridor doors and a pull down metal gate in the reception area similar to those found in shopping malls. The classrooms, offices and computer labs are locked at all times when not is use.

Panic buttons are in place at each reception desk, and every classroom has an intercom that calls reception.

Access to the Facility

The Graduate Education Center, Arlington is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 PM. From 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM, the full GW staff (3 people) is available. From 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM, two or three night coordinators are available in the facility to assist faculty and students. The Center is open Saturday 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM, and one or two coordinators are on hand. 

The building operation is different than the GECA. The building's main lobby is normally open only from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturdays. The under building garage, for which a monthly or an hourly charge is required to park, opens at 7:00 AM. A building garage attendant is available during the week from 7:00 AM until 11:00 PM. The building also provides a security guard 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Access to the building or the garage after normal building/garage hours for GECA employees and other tenant personnel is by electronic passkey only.
